Vinaros, Castellón / Castelló, Valencia, Spain

Vinaros is a town in the south of the Ebro delta in the province of Castellón, it is located at the seashore of the Mediterranean. Set on the plain Plá de Vinarós, it has an extension of 94,4 km2 and is situated 80 km. from Castellón, 120 km. from Valencia and 115 km. from Tarragona.

Near this town you can find Sant Jordi, located on an uneven plain in Bajo Maestrazgo. To be exact, 92 km. from Castellón and 132 km. from Valencia. Its main attraction is the Iberian and Roman ruins that are still conserved.

The Vinaros coastline begins at the river Sénia with a string of unspoilt coves, crystal-clear water and rocky sea bed ideal for snorkelling. Moving along towards the town, the coastline is scattered with small urban areas, the coves increase in size and the first beach umbrellas appear. Opposite the town centre lies Fortí, a popular beach with fine sand and all the necessary facilities. The bustling promenade leads to the port breakwater (where the areas highly sought after prawns are landed every day) and the yacht club with a diving association that organises dives off the Islas Columbretes. To the south of the port lies another string of quiet, alternating sand and pebble coves ending in a long, straight stretch merging into the Benicarló coastline.

The Mediterranean and its strategic situation allow the municipality an enviable climate all year round . This circumstance, united with its recognised gastronomic variety, based on the fruits of the sea, make Vinaros a cosy destination in which to get lost. There is nothing like try it, to make you want to repeat.
The week around the 15th of August are the dates chosen in Vinaròs to celebrate the "Fiesta of the Prawn", which "honours" all the tourists who choose this location to enjoy their vacations.

Six kilometres from the population, close to the hermitage of the “Misericordia”, is an archaeological site corresponding to an Iberian settlement that would have been inhabited between the VII century and I BC. For nature lovers, a trip to the mountain of “El Puig” is a recommendation, a high point located six kilometres from town, from which the different municipalities of the area, and the great plain can contemplated.

The products from the sea are the basis of the local cuisine . The quality, which has been worthy of a Denomination of Origin as with the Vinaròs Prawn, allows a variety of recipes that range from simple elaboration to more complex ones. On the “Vinarocense” menu are a great variety of fish and seafood from which the Prawn, ("Langostino"), stands out as the most widely recognised delicacy, steam cooked, grilled or with sauce. Sea dates can also be found, along with "caixetes", Crab, mussels and oysters. The elaborated dishes are influenced by the proximity to the sea, specialist dishes from the municipality are the "Fideuá", "Arroz a banda" and " Suquet de peix ".
